The Cultural History of the British Woodcraft Movement

5 oral history interviews recorded by in 2016 by Annebella Pollen for the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funded project The Cultural History of the British Woodcraft Movement 1916-2016. The object of this project was to create a permanent history of the Woodcraft movement through life stories of those who participated in the organisations as children or adult members. These organisations included, but were not limited to, The Kindred of the Kibbo Kift and the Order of Woodcraft Chivalry. The following audio recordings and associated documentation have been deposited at the British Library: • 5 oral history interviews (9 PCM WAV files, recorded at 44.1kHZ, 16 bit) • 5 content summaries, one per interview (.docx) • 5 original signed recording agreements, one per interview (paper copies).

Russian Visual Arts: Art Criticism in Context, 1814-1909 is an online research archive documenting the growth of diverse forms of commentary on the visual arts (particularly painting) in Russia from the early ninteenth- to early twentieth centuries. The archive contains over 100 hundred primary texts, in Russian and in many cases in new English translations, as well as over 300 digital images of journal and newspaper reproductions of works of art. A comprehensive editorial structure places these rare and/or previously unpublished works in their cultural and historical context. This editorial work includes introductions to the critics and the texts, new annotations to the translations, a glossary, a timeline of the development of art criticism, and an extensive bibliographical database.

The database sits behind a Web site that offers browsing of the catalogue data, images and page scans, simple quick searches by key word and advanced boolean based searching.

This dataset consists of 868 scanned images of wood-engraved illustrations from the year 1862. These images can be viewed at high quality using Zoomify/Javascript platforms, as well as interrogated against bibliographic descriptors and iconographic descriptions. A key output of this phase of the project is the updating of the platform, enhanced features and the mapping of Iconclass codes that allow the database to be searched in different languages.
